A recent attempt at consolidating some ideas, or gathering my thoughts.
I am looking for something, but I don't quite know what it is yet.
And I am not sure it is here.
I really like simple, graphic shapes, volumetric forms, hard edges, and soft shading. I also like the clarity or distinction that the outlines give to the shapes, but they feel very naive in some places and I want to be a big boy. And I think that really is what this painting is, more than anything. The subject is nostalgic and reminiscent of my childhood, the lighting and colors romanticize that childhood, but the stylistic choices are a little bit forced and emulate many different influences as a means of trying to break away and separate into selfhood. And I was conscious of none of these things while I was painting it, of course. It's official guys, I have become a teenager!
